My seminar, Clouds Without Water, is taken from a reference in the book of Jude 12 to False Teachers. Specifically, Clouds Without Water is a biblical critique of the Word-Faith / New Apostolic Reformation / Prosperity gospel. The prosperity gospel essentially holds that it is always God’s will for a Christian to be wealthy and always God’s will for a Christian to be physically healed. If we struggle financially or get sick, prosperity and physical healing are guaranteed, provided we have enough faith or sow a seed (give money) to a preacher to reap a harvest.

Prosperity theology dominates what we see on “Christian” television, such as TBN, Daystar, and The Word Network. Word-Faith/NAR theology, however, is not just an emphasis on health and wealth. It is rooted in the metaphysical cults and has a very heretical view of God, Christ, and the Atonement, and it deifies man. Clouds Without Water incorporates dozens of video clips of prominent prosperity preachers such as Benny Hinn, Joseph Prince, Creflo Dollar, Bill Johnson, Andrew Wommack, Joyce Meyer, Todd White, and Joel Osteen. So you will see for yourself what they teach. The error is then corrected point by point from scripture.

Tragically, this movement is the face of Christianity around the world, and it is leading untold millions of people into a different gospel—and a different gospel does not save. I desire to expose the error and equip the saints to “speak the truth in love” (Ephesians 4:15), with the aim of rescuing people from this dangerous deception.

Clouds Seminar Titles

History of the Pentecostal Movement - 60 mins.

Some points of discussion include:

  • Origins and Early Influences - Rooted in metaphysical cults and New Thought philosophy, developed through figures like Phineas Quimby, Mary Baker Eddy, and E.W. Kenyon.
  • The Three Waves - Development through distinct periods: First Wave (Azusa Street Revival), Second Wave (Charismatic Renewal), and Third Wave (New Apostolic Reformation).
  • Early Leaders' Controversy - Key figures like Dowie, Parham, Seymour, and Lake were marked by controversial teachings, questionable practices, and often scandalous behavior.
  • Key Doctrinal Developments - Evolution of distinctive teachings, including divine healing, prosperity gospel, speaking in tongues, and the role of modern apostles and prophets.
  • Global Impact and Spread - Became one of the fastest-growing religious movements despite ongoing theological controversies and criticisms.

Dangerous Doctrines - 80 mins.

Some points of discussion include:

  • The Positive Confession Doctrine - the teaching that words have creative power and can directly shape reality, similar to God's creative speech.
  • The "Little Gods" Doctrine - the belief that believers are divine beings or exact duplicates of God rather than created beings made in His image.
  • The Prosperity Gospel - the teaching that financial blessing and physical well-being are always God's will and guaranteed for believers with enough faith.
  • The Faith Force Doctrine - the belief that faith is a tangible, cosmic force that can be manipulated rather than trust in God.
  • Distorted Christology - teachings that diminish Jesus' divine nature, claiming He ceased being divine on earth and had to be "born again."

Hearing from Heaven - 60 mins.

Some points of discussion include:

  • The Distinction Between Revelation and Illumination - Revelation involves God revealing new information (which has ceased), while illumination is the Holy Spirit helping believers understand existing Scripture.
  • The Modern Misconception of "God's Voice" - Many Christians incorrectly believe they should receive direct, personal messages from God outside of Scripture for daily decisions.
  • The Misuse of Key Biblical Passages - Common texts like "My sheep hear my voice" and " Still small voice" are often misinterpreted to support ongoing personal revelation.
  • The Danger of Experience-Based Theology - Prioritizing subjective experiences and impressions over Scripture can lead to spiritual elitism, confusion, and potential abuse.
  • The Biblical Model of God's Communication - God has finally spoken through Christ and His Word and now guides primarily through Scripture, prayer, wisdom, and providence.

Mangled Manifestations - 80 mins.

Some points of discussion include:

  • The Sign Gifts Question - Examines debate between continuationism (all spiritual gifts continue today) vs cessationism (apostolic/sign gifts have ceased).
  • Biblical Tongues vs Modern Practice - True biblical tongues were known languages serving as a sign, contrasting with modern unintelligible ecstatic speech.
  • False Modern Manifestations - Many claimed supernatural manifestations (being slain in the spirit, grave soaking, holy laughter) mirror occult practices and lack biblical basis.
  • False Prophets and Prophecies - Modern prophetic claims consistently fail biblical tests of accuracy and reflect characteristics of false prophets.
  • Experiential vs Biblical Christianity - Warning against validating teachings through experiences rather than Scripture, emphasizing that experiences must be tested against God's Word

The Hurt of Healing - 75 mins.

Some points of discussion include:

  • The False Promise of Guaranteed Healing - Word of Faith movement teaches that healing is always God's will and failure to receive healing indicates a lack of faith or sin.
  • Biblical Examples vs. Modern Claims - Jesus's healings were immediate, complete, and verifiable, contrasting sharply with modern faith healers' unverifiable and often temporary claims.
  • The Burden of Failed Healing - Teaching that lack of healing is due to insufficient faith creates deep spiritual trauma, guilt, and disillusionment for those who remain sick.
  • The Purpose of Biblical Healing - Jesus’ healings served specific purposes beyond physical restoration, including validating His ministry and affirming His deity.
  • A Balanced Biblical View - Scripture shows God's power to heal and His sovereign purposes in allowing some illnesses to persist, calling for trust in His character rather than guaranteed outcomes.

The Ruinous Ruse of Rome

A Biblical Critique of Roman Catholicism

According to recent statistics, there are nearly 1.3 billion Roman Catholics worldwide. Along with the Word-Faith/Charismatic movement, Roman Catholicism is the face of Christianity around the world. There are actually a great deal of similarities between the two. Most evangelicals think of Roman Catholicism as just another denomination that is essentially Christian only with a lot of statues and rituals. This is not the case, however.

In The Ruinous Ruse of Rome: A Biblical Critique of Roman Catholicism, we will look at the origins and doctrines of Roman Catholicism. We will see that though the Church of Rome has begun to adopt some of the evangelical lingo, its doctrine is anything but biblical. The Roman Catholic Church may speak of grace and forgiveness, but it has completely redefined these terms. We will see that the Roman Catholic Mass is a blasphemous re-sacrificing of Jesus. We will see that Rome’s doctrine of infused righteousness (as opposed to the biblical teaching of imputed righteousness) is a soul-destroying doctrine that keeps people in spiritual bondage.

The Ruinous Ruse of Rome is not intended to disparage Roman Catholics. This three-session seminar will equip believers to speak the truth in love to our Roman Catholic friends and family. We must love them enough to tell them the truth.

Hermeneutics Seminar

Cutting It Straight with God's Word

Have you ever wondered how so many different denominations with such varying beliefs can all claim to believe in the same book, the Bible? Have you ever wondered if passages like Jeremiah 29:11 do apply to you? Does Isaiah 53:5 promise physical healing? When Paul says in 1 Corinthians 14:39, “Do not forbid to speak in tongues,” does that prove that the gift of tongues is for believers today? When Jesus says in John 10:27, “My sheep hear My voice,” is that a promise that we can hear God speak to us today outside of the Bible?

Hermeneutics (derived from the Greek word hermeneuo, which means to explain or interpret) is the discipline of interpreting scripture. Scripture commands us to “accurately handle the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15). The Greek word employed in this verse (ὀρθοτομοῦντα – orthotomoonta) means to “cut it straight.” Our task as Bible interpreters is to cut it straight with God’s word.

Justin’s seminar on hermeneutics is comprised of three one-hour sessions. It will discuss the fundamental principles of the historical-grammatical approach to biblical hermeneutics and deal with the common mistakes people make in interpreting scripture. Only when the Bible is rightly interpreted can God be rightly known. This seminar will equip your church members or conference attendees with the necessary knowledge and tools to reap the life-long and eternity-impacting benefits of cutting it straight with God’s word.

Do Not Hinder Them

A Biblical Examination of Childhood Conversion

At what age is it appropriate to consider baptism for a child? This is one of the most challenging questions both parents and pastors face. Various studies have shown that most children who make professions of faith in Christ at an early age and are baptized grow up and walk away from the faith they once professed.

Sadly, we all have seen this. In 2014, a task force commissioned by the Southern Baptist Convention to study the alarming decline in baptism rates reported that the only age group that actually showed an increase in the number of baptisms was age five and under. A Baptist pastor friend of mine once said, “As Baptists, we don’t believe in infant baptism; we just practice it.”

However, what is true amongst Southern Baptists is true across the evangelical spectrum. Most children who are baptized at a young age show little evidence of conversion ever taking place in their lives once they grow up and leave the home.

Based on Justin’s book of the same title, Do Not Hinder Them: A Biblical Examination of Childhood Conversion is designed to help parents and pastors know when it is appropriate to baptize a child. How can we tell if a child has been truly converted or has just made intellectual assent to the basics of the Gospel? Do Not Hinder Them will compassionately provide sound, biblical answers to this important and tender issue.

I have known Justin for over a decade and have witnessed his public and private life, collaborated with him on ministry projects, and been his friend and pastor through difficult times. I can attest that Justin's love for others, willingness to serve, and humility are genuine fruits of his relationship with Christ, not just a public persona. He has presented seminars and preached at our church, accurately handling the Word of Truth, exposing error with grace and humility, and pointing people to Christ. I heartily recommend Justin and his ministry, as he will continue to be a blessing to the church for the glory of Christ alone.

The Bereans in Acts 17:11 warn 21st-century Christians to confirm that preaching aligns with Scripture. Many are being led astray by the false gospel of the Word of Faith or Prosperity Gospel celebrities dominating "Christian" television. Christians should attend Justin Peters' "Clouds without Water" seminars, which God is using to rescue many from error and apostasy.
